The Next Big Thing in the Medical Field
It is time that nurses would think of what they uniform and gadgets would fit their profession and so they have spoken out by drawing out their views of future nursing scrubs.
Over the past centuries, technology has almost always something to do with military advances or the medicine. Men and women of science often invent things or discover something for the purpose of medical or military breakthrough. And when it comes to medicine, technology often goes favorably. More than likely, technology in the medical field at present is focused on equipments and apparatuses. It is more inclined on the things practitioners use for a patient.
At Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, editors of the school publication thought of something different. Instead of focusing their visions to the medicine field all alone and the equipments they use, they have devised a thought on what would be a future nurse look like. The objective of their cause to give opportunities to nurses to think of what possible nursing scrubs could they imagine come future. As the nurses? imagine, they always consider the tasks before them. There are just simply special factors that each nurse should have that their uniforms give to them.
RN or Robo-Nurse is designed by Eric Tomakin, a staff nurse at the Department of Surgery in the said university. The Robo-Nurse is just a bionic suit that is composed of different nurse apparatuses. The primary suit is composed of a special fabric that has microscopic ventilation system and with anti-blood and stain feature. This also automatically adjusts to heat and cold. From the head, the suit is equipped with a Voice Modulator and Eye Navigator as penned by Tomakin. This device is used to send voice command for the power boots and medication belt. Right hand is equipped with an Ultra Functional Finger Probe that is capable of knowing patients? vital signs. The most attractive gadgets that Robo-Nurse has are the strength intensifier and the power boots. While the Bilateral Arm Strength Intensifies will enable the nurse to lift 500 pounds, the power boots will allow him/her to move swiftly and speedily at 10 mph.
Maggie Fink?s design of a future nursing scrub is almost identical to that of Tomakin?s just with a few differences. She calls it the OB Nurse of the Future. An additional retractable eye shield is added to that voice modulator of Tomakin?s and Fink added to her voice modulator a language setup. She also integrated a Quik-Grab shoe cover located just on the side of the pants. A digital wristwatch is also integrated that will serve a patient?s chart board with the ability to project patients diagnosis and many other helpful gadgets.
Many nurses would really look forward for these innovations. These inventions will not just make the nurse look good and comfortable but also will foster better functionality in their line of profession. Though the greatest drawback to this is time and resources for the inventions be realized. True too that we are not yet on that era of advancement but who knows as one commenter said in reply to the post “…maybe someday?”
